NECS Cleaning Services has been an established facilities management service provider for one of the largest engineering firms in the UK.

Back in January of 2009, following some refurbishments at one of their offices in Newcastle, an interested client got in touch with the team here at NECS and asked if we would help them clean up the dust and debris that was left behind by the refurbishment company they had been working with. We gratefully said yes, and with customer satisfaction in mind we set out to make sure that (as with all our clients) they received the best service possible from our highly-trained and experienced team.

After completing the job and leaving our client impressed with the result, our impeccable level of service and the quality of our staff, they soon got in contact again with an incredible contract offer that would allow us to deliver regular cleaning services at this office which was too good for us to turn down.

After working with this large North East based engineering firm at their Newcastle office for a considerable amount of time, it wasn’t long before we developed a strong working relationship with the client and we were offered the opportunity to not only provide their Newcastle office with our cleaning services but to begin to also cover their other venues across the UK.

Through the many years of working with the client, we continued to add more and more of their estate to our portfolio. We are proud to say that the NECS team now provide our cleaning services to all of their premises on a daily basis, which spans across six companies and eight different locations.

The client receives all of the regular bespoke services that we provide along with a few additional services including washroom products and solutions, consumables supply, janitorial cover, scheduled window cleaning as well as deep cleans which cover builders cleans, carpet cleans and high level cleans.

Our team has had a blast supplying this client with our contract cleaning, facilities management and many other cleaning services for more than eight years across the UK, and we look forward to eight more!

Over the years our facilities management packages have been tailored and perfected. From around 2008, we started to work with more and more office and industrial clients along with the bar and restaurant sector we began with when we first started. Working with new clients meant that we needed to adapt our offering so we could meet the requirements of all our clients. We began providing washroom services to existing clients, and over the years have built up successful partnerships with a variety of suppliers (from window cleaners, to feminine hygiene providers, to pest control suppliers and grounds maintenance).

 

The introduction of our facilities management services and improved management systems enabled us to gain our ISO accreditation in 2014, and we now assess all of our subcontractors annually to ensure they are continuously offering the same (if not improved!) high quality standards, environmental consideration and healthy and safety that we do here at NECS.

 

So, What Do We Do?

The facilities management services provided at NECS are classified in two main areas: cleaning and maintenance. Although, as customer satisfaction is what we deem the most important judge of our services and staff, we’re always willing to discuss your requirements when looking to settle upon the perfect tailored plan to resolve your current cleaning catastrophes. We want to relieve the burden of maintaining your workplace alone, and let you focus on the task at hand.

 

Cleaning:

 

Windows and Blinds

Our commercial cleaners will not only clean the glass inside and out, but we can also clean the frames, window sills or external cladding if necessary. We mostly carry this out using our reach and wash system, but where required we will use ladders or scissor lifts and booms for larger sites or restricted access.  We’ll also give your blinds a wash when required so that you can dazzle your clients with fresh and crisp white

Washroom and Feminine Hygiene

We ensure that you’re always stocked up on washroom consumables such as hand towels, soap, toilet rolls, air fresheners, electric hand driers and feminine hygiene products.

Daily cleaning and Janitorial Services

Our contract cleaners carry out daily cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, desk cleaning (don’t worry, we clean around your documents so nothing gets misplaced!), telephone cleaning, and emptying bins for you so you come in to a fresh and sanitary work environment each day. We also carry out janitorial tasks such as mopping, kitchen cleaning and bathroom cleaning.

Outdoor/ Car Park Cleaning

We’ll remove litter and debris from your outdoor space or car park, to ensure that you give the right impression to your customers when they arrive.

Maintenance:

 

Handyman Services

We will carry out basic repairs on your behalf, move furniture to rearrange your workspace, replace light bulbs and even assist with internal decoration if it is something you need.

Grounds Maintenance

We’ll ensure that your grounds are kept looking nice and are regularly maintained, such as cutting the grass, weeding and spraying the car park clear of muck and general grime.

Pest Control

We offer various service packages with pre-programmed visits to manage your pests, covering anything from rats, mice and cockroaches to ants, flies or wasps. We provide pest registers and reports along with  online access to account and location plans, including a set number of visits to your site per year dependent on the size of the area. We’ll also respond to emergency call outs if required!

PAT Testing

We are certified PAT (portable appliance testing) testers, meaning that we can check and approve your appliances as safe to use so that there are reduced safety hazards around the office.

Check out the NECS football kit! Over the summer, we were in contact with the fantastic head coach of the Under 14s Team at Wallsend Community FC, who, being growing lads, were in need of brand spanking new kits. We’re strong believers in supporting your local youth teams to give them the best chance to succeed, early on in their sports career!

When one of our wonderful area managers (and self proclaimed ‘Football Mam’) heard about this, she took opportunity with both hands and suggested that our NECS Cleaning Team lent  a helping hand in getting the Wallsend under 14s Team a new kit… complete with our crisp and striking logo and company name emblazoned onto the front. Avid football fans ourselves, of course we agreed that this was a wonderful idea. We’re now the proud sponsor of the Under 14 team of Wallsend Community FC!

After all, we all know how messy teenagers can get. Add in a mixture of mud, grass and the exhilaration of absolutely wiping the floor with the competition and we’re sure that the changing rooms and facilities could definitely do with NECS’ cleaning expertise. It seemed like the perfect match!

The boys play 18 games per season in a pinpoint league, which is made up of teams from all across the North East, ranging from Berwick to Otterburn and Newcastle, to North Shields and even Blythe.

We recently received a breakdown of their progress so far and we really pleased that the new kit is bringing them luck along with their masses of talent.

The boys played their first game at home versus Ashingdon, and won 6 – 3; a fantastic result! They’ve since won 4 games in their new kit. It’s great to receive the reports of their successes as they compete in more games and improve upon their performance each time.

Our Ten Year Anniversary

NECS’ 10 Year Anniversary

 

Well, October 2016 marks our 10 year anniversary of being a Ltd company. We have seen a lot of changes during this time, and it’s been a hell of a ten years to look back on!

In 2006, when I started out as a sole trader and our team of office cleaners in Newcastle took their first steps, we had a total of 4 cleaners and 2 contracts for commercial cleaning in Newcastle and Carlisle. 10 years in, we’ve amassed a team of approximately 200 cleaners, 4 supervisors, 4 area managers and Head Office staff of 6. We’ve certainly grown a lot in this time.

 

Like any company, we’ve seen our ups and downs, but we always continue to soldier on… we’ve made it this long!

Below are just 5 of our main highlights over the last 10 years:

  1. Purchasing our office near Cramlington was a key highlight for us, as this gave us a permanent base, and helped us to grow our Head office and Support Team.
  2. We then expanded into two new areas – providing contract cleaning in The Midlands and Scotland. Seeing our little company grow from a cleaning staff count of 4, to an employee count able to stretch further afield was a huge success, heading us towards our goal of national coverage.
  3. We grew our business with our largest single client from 1 office, with 1 cleaner to 25 cleaners operating across 11 factories and offices in the North East.
  4. During this time period, we have also achieved (and maintained!) our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and our OHSAS 18001, establishing ourselves as market leaders in this respect.
  5. Over the last 5 years, we have managed to increase our turnover 3 fold, through our marketing efforts combined with high levels of customer satisfaction and retention. 

 

I believe that how we have dealt with our lower points is what has determined our success. The biggest hurdle for NECS over the last decade was the economic meltdown in 2008, as it unfortunately forced a lot of our clients to go out of business or at least cut back on their company spend. To ride out the storm, we increased our sales effort and began to target different sectors which had been less affected by the recession. Though potentially a slightly risky move at the time, we invested even more money in our North East cleaning company, and the end result was that after a rocky 3 years, we had created a stronger and more streamlined business, operating in a more resilient sector, providing contract cleaners in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Northumberland, Cramlington and Edinburgh.

 

Being a cleaning company we’ve had our fair share of laughs over the years as we get to work with a whole variety of different clients and sectors – anything from cleaning office buildings, to end of tenancy student lets (I mean, can you imagine some of the states we find!), to nightclub toilets on a Sunday morning… rather us than you, I suppose! So, nothing really shocks us anymore.

My personal favourite job we carried out was for the St Thomas Parish Church. Whilst I loved the fact we got to appreciate the stunning church situated in County Durham, this wasn’t the only reason this was my favourite task! They got in touch with us, explaining that they’d been experiencing some slight issues with a build up of (make sure you’re seated!) a total of about 800 years worth of dust and debris that was beginning to fall on the parishioners. Not ideal. 

 

Our Employee of the Decade

 

We wouldn’t be where we are today without all of our staff members’ continued and unfaltering dedication to the company, so we wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all of our ever expanding NECS family. Our employee’s positive attitudes and hard working nature is consistently reflected in the feedback we receive from our happy clients – making it a genuine pleasure to work with every team.

 

Our Employee Of The Decade has been with us for a total of 6 years now, since we launched our North West business back in 2010. Having started off working for us as cleaning staff, he soon progressed to mobile support cleaner as he was willing to travel. As our customer base grew in and around Manchester, our Employee Of The Decade demonstrated his capabilities and was soon promoted to Supervisor, and then Area Manager for the North West not long after. He now manages a total of 60 cleaning staff, keeps the team motivated and in high spirits and is a credit to thEmployee of The Decadee company.

 

Whilst all of our managers have genuinely incredible work ethics and abilities, and consistently show their dedication to their teams and the company, we’ve chosen to award the lovely Darren Street with the accolade of Employee of the Decade, as he has come the furthest in his career progression since he became an employee six years ago.

 

 

 

Future Plans for NECS

 

We’re now looking to further our North East cleaning service’s success with increased marketing efforts and consistent maintenance of and, where possible, improvement of services provided. We’ll be transitioning to the new ISO standards in Summer 2017, to keep ourselves up to date and providing high quality work every time. By 2020, we’d like to be working nationally, so watch this space.

Contract Cleaning Team Manchester:

We have welcomed two new recruits to our Manchester team, Stephen Kee and Ryan Jones who will be reporting to our North West Area Manager, Darren Street.

 

Contract Cleaning Team Birmingham:

Our Birmingham office has been lucky enough to be appointed a new Area Manager to take the team under his wing for all. Steven Dean will be managing the Birmingham team, and we’re excited to see him keep them motivated and chipper, as we know he will!

 

Contract Cleaning team Newcastle Head Office:

Paul Jones has recently been appointed as our new Sales Manager, and joins us with a wealth of Business Development experience from other service sectors. We’re keen to see where he can help us drive the growth of our ever-expanding company across the country and hopefully even further afield!

We also have a new Yorkshire Supervisor who has started at our Leeds office, called Daniel Wilson. We look forward to seeing him find his feet with his team and keep them all in line!

Maintain Your Motivation With These Desk Organisation Hacks

We’ll clean the rest!

 

We will clean every inch of your work space here at NECS UK, however we consider it protocol to leave your paperwork alone. We’re more than happy to clean under and around your items, but we’d hate for something important to go missing or be misplaced due to it being moved around by one of us… so we leave your paperwork well alone, exactly where you left it!

So, this one tiny task being left down to you, we thought we would offer up a few tips, tricks and life hacks to make your job a whole lot easier!

When it comes down to it, if your desk resembles a junk drawer, it’s going to be impossible to complete high quality work in that environment.

 

Declutter your desk by organising into categories:

    • Papers
      Try and keep the amount of papers piling up on your desk to a minimum . A good idea is to have a tiered drawer or labelled file holder, which you can organise this into ‘New’ and ‘To Do’. The New tier is where people can leave documents that they need you to take a look into. The ‘To Do’ tier is where you put your documents that you have received, read, and they now need actioning. Any other papers should be thrown away to remove as much clutter from your desk as possible.

    • Personal items
      It’s always nice to have a personal item or two on your desk, to add a touch of personality and keep you motivated. If you’re going to keep photos on your desk, get a nice frame for them which will make your desk look a lot cleaner. Try not to let your desk pile up with your 5 favourite mugs; keep one, keep it clean and keep it away from elbows and keyboards!

    • Tools
      Though you do need to de-clutter as much as possible, there are going to be items that you just need. Pens, scissors, staplers and diaries are necessities, but try and keep them all in one place. Keep a pot for your pens and a spot for your chunkier tools so you keep yourself organised, tidy and motivated!

 

Give each place a home:

By giving everything a designated spot, you’ll train yourself to naturally reach there for that certain item.. All in the hope that you’ll begin to put them back here, too!

What Are The Main Benefits to our Membership?

We love taking part in all NECC’s events first and foremost because we never fail to have an amazing time – they’re always so enjoyable and hosts are always so warm, welcoming and encouraging. However, the events are brilliant for us in terms of profile building – we can get our name out there so much more efficiently and effectively. With the ongoing support we have received from the North East Chamber of Commerce they have really helped us build our profile with a number of press and PR Opportunities.

Network Opportunities

We love the chance to do a bit of networking at NECS, and only wish we could do it more often! The North East Chamber of Commerce provide a strong networking infrastructure, bringing people and businesses together with their number of events and online members group. The thought process is that businesses are stronger together, and that companies sharing knowledge really helps achieve a level of success that you would have been unlikely to achieve alone. Over the past 10 years we have been lucky enough to get to know many wonderful individuals. One of the biggest benefits in our eyes are these strong working relationships, and friendships, that have been formed.

Marketing and Purchasing Opportunities

We find that there are more opportunities for us to offer our services, and also make purchases from like minded businesses, due to having these relationships. Since getting to know other members of the Chamber, we find ourselves being interested in their products and services more and more, the more we find out about the companies and what they can offer. This also allows us enhanced opportunities to encourage members of the chamber to use our cleaning service – a large number of our longstanding and loved clients we actually met through the Chamber, who trust us to keep their facilities clean and sanitary!

Why We Love Being A Part of NECC

 

The main reason that we love being a NECC family member is due to the outstanding level of ongoing support that we receive, and the opportunities that it opens up for us in terms of developing our knowledge, forming business plans with a wider reach in mind and general world-cleaning-domination! 10 years down the line and we’re still hugely impressed with the backing we receive and the platforms it offers to us. The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce

Great news… We’ve recently been kindly welcomed as a member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.

 

As you know, we’ve recently added a few new team members, and are constantly striving to expand outwards and upwards to grow the business and our NECS family, which was our main motivation when we were weighing up forming this working partnership with them.

 

The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce are a membership organisation whose main goal is to support local businesses and to help ensure business success on a local, national or even global level.

 

Having historic memberships with the North East Chamber of Commerce, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, there were no doubts in our mind that this was the best next step for us to take for our Edinburgh office.

 

What Does This Mean For Us As A Company?

 

Being a proud member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce means that there’s a multitude of new opportunities which will be opened up to us with the added level of support.

 

An additional level of exposure and awareness is generously provided which can only benefit the the company (and the messy facilities in the local area!) as there are more clients who are interested in our impeccable cleaning service and friendly employeesand we are able to provide our renowned service to a broader variety of people in need.

 

Our goals are really supported by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce as their ultimate goal is to support local businesses, push them towards further success, and do a little bit of hand-holding where (or rather, if) necessary!

 

When looking to branch out internationally, they are keen to provide expert advice on these markets and cultures so we’re firm in the knowledge that there is a need for our cleaning services, where they’re needed and how we can reach out to these people. Purely being a national service at the moment, without their willingness to share information we may find the task of providing our cleaning services to those in need as it would be rather more difficult to understand who needs us, where they need us and what exactly they need, on a more international scale.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity we’ve been given with our membership to the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and for their inclusive and generous business ethos to support local companies. We’re excited to see what’s coming next for NECS with this new business relationship… just watch this space!
